The incidence of recurrent attacks by the herpes simplex virus, which causes painful lesions, including herpes I (cold sores), and herpes II (genital herpes) is staggering. Herpes I (HSV-1) is estimated around 50 - 80% in the U.S. while herpes II (HSV-2) around 25%. Millions have been spent on the search for an effective medication, but little progress has been made with one exception.
